Shri B. S. Mootha Girls’ Senior Secondary School celebrated its 49ᵗʰ Annual Sports Day with tremendous energy and grandeur on 21ˢᵗ June 2025 at Nehru Stadium, Chennai. The day carried double significance as it coincided with International Yoga Day, celebrated under the theme “Yoga for One Earth, One Health.” The stadium came alive with colour, movement, and emotion as students, teachers, parents, and dignitaries gathered to witness a spectacular display of sportsmanship, fitness, and unity.
The 49ᵗʰ Annual Sports Meet was graced by the presence of our esteemed Chief Guest, Shri Kailash Mull Dugar, and our distinguished Guest of Honour, Mrs. Dhanya Ajay. The management members of the school, Managing Trustee Shri Paras Singh Munoth, Secretary Shri Nirmal Nahar, Correspondent Shri Rajkumar Jain, and Principal Mrs. Deivanai, extended a warm welcome and honoured the presence of the dignitaries.
The day’s events began with a solemn prayer, invoking blessings for a successful event. This was followed by the hoisting of the National Flag and School Flag, as the crowd stood united in respect. The torch relay and March Past were a visual delight, as the four houses — Deepanjali, Gyananjali, Premanjali, and Pushpanjali — marched in perfect synchrony, proudly showcasing their strength, unity, and vibrant house spirit. The ceremonial lighting of the torch by the Chief Guest marked the official opening of the Sports Day. Followed by the oath-taking ceremony which reflected the students’ commitment to compete with integrity and uphold the values of sportsmanship.
In his address, the Chief Guest emphasized the importance of sports as a foundation for building strong character and instilling valuable life lessons. A series of breathtaking performances followed, blending athletic excellence with cultural pride. The KG students opened the show with a colourful tribal drill that brought smiles to every face. This was followed by a coordinated dumbbell drill and pyramid formation by Classes I and II. Classes III and IV impressed with their vibrant act “Operation Sindoor”, which honoured India’s brave warriors and celebrated patriotism. Students of Classes V and VI presented a graceful hand-themed drill, conveying health and fitness messages with eye-catching placards. Senior students took the stage with a powerful rhythmic yoga display, forming divine patterns symbolizing Goddess Saraswati, Lakshmi, and Durga. Martial arts forms like Silambam and Karate, along with Archery demonstrations, showcased students’ refined talent, control, and relentless discipline. These presentations reflected not just fitness and flair, but also creativity and purpose.
Track and field events throughout the day witnessed enthusiastic participation from students across all age categories. From the 100m and 200m sprints to the 400m dash and the much-awaited 4x100m relay, the field was filled with cheers and competitive energy. Each race brought moments of tension, excitement, and celebration. The audience applauded every athlete for their effort, courage, and perseverance.
The event culminated with the grand prize distribution ceremony. Dignitaries honoured winners with medals and trophies for excellence in various events. Awards for Best Drill, Best March Past, Individual Champions, and the prestigious Overall Championship Shield were presented amidst loud cheers and applause. The ceremonial lowering of the house and school flags marked the official conclusion of the event. In a moment of grace and symbolism, the flags were respectfully handed over to the Principal Smt Deivanai by the student leaders, echoing the values of leadership and legacy.
The 49ᵗʰ Annual Sports Meet was a resounding success, bringing together physical vigour, creative expression, and team spirit. It stood as a glowing testament to the values of teamwork, resilience, and excellence—an unforgettable day etched in the hearts of everyone present.
