50th ANNUAL SPORTS DAY WITH GRANDEUR
Chennai, June 20: Shri B. S. Mootha Girls Senior Secondary School celebrated its 50th Annual Sports Day with great enthusiasm and splendour at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Chennai, marking a significant milestone in the institution’s Golden Jubilee Year (1976–2026).
The programme commenced with the Tamil Thaivazhthu and School Prayer, followed by the formal inauguration ceremony. The event was graced by the Chief Guest, Shri Madanlal Gundecha, Vice Chairman of the institution, a Chartered Accountant and renowned businessman. In his address, he encouraged students to embrace discipline, perseverance, leadership, and sportsmanship as essential qualities for success in life.
The opening ceremony featured an impressive March Past led by the Student Leadership Team, followed by the ceremonial Torch Relay, Sports Oath, and the declaration of the Sports Meet Open. The release of colourful balloons added vibrancy to the celebrations and marked the official commencement of the day’s events.
Students showcased their talents through a wide range of athletic competitions in the Under-14, Under-17, and Under-19 categories, including the 100 metres, 200 metres, and 4 × 100 metres relay races. The track events witnessed spirited participation, healthy competition, and remarkable sporting excellence.
A major attraction of the Sports Day was the series of creative drills and displays presented by students from various classes. The audience was treated to the colourful Rings Drill, Hula Hoop Drill, Fan Drill, Tennis Bat Drill, Umbrella Drill titled “Rang Dhanush,” Yoga Display, Pyramid Display, Zumba Presentation, Band Display, and spectacular Karate and Silambam demonstrations.
The Yoga Display, presented in connection with the International Day of Yoga theme “Yoga for Healthy Ageing,” beautifully blended traditional yogic practices with artistic formations depicting Lord Vinayaga, Lord Shiva, the Shivalinga, and the word “YOGA.” Several performances featured special “SBSM 50” formations, celebrating fifty glorious years of the institution’s legacy.
The Pyramid Display captivated the audience with formations symbolizing the school’s motto of Gyan, Sheel, and Sanyam, along with creative structures portraying the institution’s inspiring journey from 1976 to 2026. The Umbrella Drill featured rainbow-themed presentations and the iconic school lamp formation, while the Tennis Bat Drill conveyed the powerful message “Scroll Less, Play More,” encouraging students to embrace outdoor games and healthy lifestyles.
The audience was equally enthralled by the Individual Display segment, which included a thrilling Fire Tile Breaking demonstration and impressive archery performances. The Karate and Silambam presentation showcased traditional martial arts, self-defence techniques, fire performances, and various advanced formations, earning loud applause from spectators.
Special events for parents and alumnae, including the Gentlemen’s Speed Walk, Ladies’ Balance Walk Challenge, and Alumnae 200-metre Race, added excitement and community participation to the celebrations.
The Overall Championship was secured by Premanjali House, while Pushpanjali House emerged as the runner-up. In the March Past Competition, Pushpanjali House secured the first position. Individual Championship trophies were awarded in the Under-14, Under-17, and Under-19 categories.
The event was attended by Shri Nirmal Nahar, Secretary; Shri Rajkumar Jain, Correspondent; Shri Harish L. Metha, Chairman; Shri Paras Singh Munoth, Managing Trustee; Principal Smt. Rohini Muthuswamy; Vice principal Smt.Ms.D.Mageshwari members of the Management, teachers, parents, alumnae, and well-wishers.
The celebrations concluded with prize distribution, the lowering of the flags, Vote of Thanks, and the National Anthem, bringing to a close a memorable Sports Day that reflected the school’s enduring commitment to holistic education, character building, and sporting excellence.
